McMaster’s Inaugural Community-Engaged Research Day
The Office of Community Engagement (OCE) hosted McMaster University’s inaugural Community-Engaged Research (CER) Day on March 28, 2024, spotlighting collaborative research efforts with Hamilton’s diverse communities. In his opening address, Dr. Ameil Joseph, OCE’s Academic Director of Community-Engaged Research and Relationships and Associate Professor in the School of Social Work, acknowledged the enduring challenges experienced by marginalized groups within our community. He emphasized the imperative for the university to acknowledge and use its power through collaborative partnerships, amplifying the voices of those historically and systemically disenfranchised.
Throughout the day, participants engaged in informal networking, explored the Community-Engaged Research Gallery showcasing a breadth of projects, and attended interactive sessions on research ethics. Specialized booths, including the Rapid CER consultation booth hosted by Brighter Spark Applied Research at Spark and the McMaster Research Shop, provided invaluable resources and guidance for researchers and community members alike. Participants were also able to engage with CBRCanada and learn about their network and services, and were able to get turbo consultations from Research Data Management Services and the Sherman Centre for Digital Scholarship.
McMaster’s inaugural Community-Engaged Research Day was a resounding success, and we extend our sincere gratitude to all participants and contributors for making this day truly memorable.
